GPX4 and infection: An underlying study infected African green monkey kidney (Vero) cells with SARS-CoV-2 and found that SARS-CoV-2 resulted in a significant reduction in mRNA expression of endoplasmic reticulum-resident selenoproteins, which is strongly correlated with selenium by GPX4 expression or activity, so infection with SARS-CoV-2 may be related to suppression of GPX4 (Wang et al., 2021).
