The valosin-containing protein (VCP, MIM: 601023) gene is considered responsible for frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and/or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) 6 (FTDALS6), also known as ALS14 (MIM: 613954), and inclusion body myopathy with early-onset Paget disease and frontotemporal dementia 1 (MIM: 167320) via a dominant-negative mechanism (Ayaki et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene VCP and frontotemporal dementia.
