FN1 and cancer: The Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) tripeptide is a highly conserved recognition motif found in ECM proteins, for e.g., in FN, vitronectin, and fibrinogen; is capable of binding to several integrins, including αvβ3, αvβ1, αvβ5, αvβ6, αvβ8, α5β1, α8β1 expressed on cancer cells, and αIIbβ3 integrin expressed on platelets.
