In a mouse model of type I diabetes mellitus, it has been shown that miR-378a redistributes to interfibrillar mitochondria (IFM) and downregulates the expression of ATP synthase F0 subunit 6 (ATP6), which encodes a subunit of complex V. The administration of an inhibitor of miR-378a alleviated ATP6 expression in IFM and heart failure in this mouse model [83]. Here, MT-ATP6 is linked to heart failure.
