An important feature of COVID-19 immunopathogenesis emerged from a longitudinal study conducted in patients with moderate and severe disease displaying a similar expression profiling of inflammatory cytokines up to 10 days after the disease onset, while, at later time points, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10 levels steadily declined in patients with moderate disease and instead remained elevated in those with severe COVID-19 [84]. The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is COVID-19.
