In conclusion, severe peritoneal injuries due to fungal and Pseudomonas aeruginosa-peritonitis decreased CReg expression and increased deposition of activated C3 and C5b-9 in the peritoneum, suggesting that peritonitis, particularly fungal and Pseudomonas aeruginosa-peritonitis, might induce susceptibility to further peritoneal injuries due to excessive C activation. Here, C3 is linked to peritonitis.
