Studies by Poffenberger (2018) demonstrated that targeting STAT3 signaling reduced polyp growth in animals that carry germline mutations of SKT11, a gene encoding the tumor suppressor liver kinase B1 (LKB1) that is mutated in patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, a disease characterized by the development of gastrointestinal polyps that predispose to CRC [61]. The gene discussed is STAT3; the disease is gastrointestinal polyp.
