MAP2 and ischemia: Interestingly, the differences in cell death-related processes such as DNA degradation and cytoskeletal breakdown probably reflect different degrees of ischaemic insults; e.g., mild ischemia such as 5-min bilateral CCA occlusion caused DNA cleavage followed by loss of MAP-2 immunoreactivity, whereas ischemia such as 30-min unilateral CCA occlusion or complete ischemia with decapitation resulted in loss of MAP-2 immunoreactivity faster than nuclear changes in the hippocampus [57].
