ITGB3 and autism: We focused on Itgb3 KO mice because (i) the cell adhesion molecule β3 integrin is enriched in human and mouse LV pyramidal neurons [5, 6], (ii) its association to ASD is supported by both single nucleotide polymorphisms and rare mutations [7], (iii) Itgb3 KO mice exhibit autism-like behaviors [8] and (iv) members of the integrin family have previously been shown to be important for synaptic plasticity and dendritic spine dynamics [9, 10].
