Compared to those with unchanged diabetes type three years post-diagnosis, children with changed diabetes type were older (p < 0.001), more likely to be of Hispanic ethnicity (p < 0.001) and negative for autoantibodies to GAD65 (p < 0.001) and IA-2 (p < 0.001), and had higher C-peptide (p < 0.001) but lower glucose (p = 0.01) and HbA1c (p = 0.01) levels at diagnosis (Table 3). The gene discussed is GAD2; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
