A general pattern is illustrated in Figure 2: a rapid gradual increase of IGF-1 was observed mainly in healthy full-term neonates over time during the first 45 days of life, in a much lesser degree an IGF increase in preterms without encephalopathy, whereas preterm with brain injury had just measurable IGF-1 levels only in day 45 [in accordance to Hansen-Pupp et al. (100)]. Here, IGF1 is linked to injury.
