Our in vitro data shows that IL11-induced activation of the inflammasome in the human placental villus results in Gasdermin D cleavage and pyroptotic cell death, thus placental exposure to excess IL11 may cause hyperactivation of the placental inflammasome, resulting in Gasdermin D cleavage, pyroptotic cell death, and placental damage leading to preeclampsia. The gene discussed is IL11; the disease is preeclampsia.
