A compressive review that assessed the association between T. gondii and neurologic disorders found that the increased production of nitric oxide (NO2), enhanced the production of inflammatory cytokines (interferon gamma, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 1 reactive oxygen and nitrogen species), neurotic biomolecules, and altered the dopamine balance leading to olfactory impairment, migraine, Asperger's syndrome, autism, and schizophrenia.86, 87.
