Similar AUC values were obtained when equal weight was given to each CpG in the detect score assuming that methylation at any of the four CpGs is sufficient to classify a sample as HCC, though certain CpGs are methylated (>20%) in a higher fraction of HCC samples than others (59% for VASH2, 57% for CHFR, 50% for GRID2IP and 44% for CCNJ) (Supplementary Table 2). This evidence concerns the gene CHFR and hepatocellular carcinoma.
