IL33 and acute respiratory distress syndrome: The prolonged and exacerbated interaction between innate and adaptive immune cells leads to the unregulated secretion of many pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF, interferon-γ, IL-1, IL-6, IL-18, and IL-33, causing a cytokine storm (Mehta et al., 2020) and, in some patients, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) (Soy et al., 2020).
