MF regulates nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells p65 (NF-κB p65) and high mobility group box 1 (Hmgb1) gene expression, thereby decreasing malondialdehyde, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 β) levels, and subsequently decreasing bone loss in a rat model of periodontitis.27 The gene discussed is HMGB1; the disease is periodontitis.
