Microfilaria of W. bancrofti in the lungs can cause an allergic reaction that resembles asthma, a rare condition known as tropical pulmonary eosinophilia (TPE), which presents with cough, dyspnea, wheezing, chest pain, systemic manifestations (including fever and weight loss), peripheral blood eosinophilia > 3000/μL, and elevated total IgE > 1000 IU/mL. Here, IGHE is linked to asthma.
