FMO5 and obesity disorder: In addition to its role in oxidative stress, NRF2 modulates intermediary metabolism, in particular fatty acid synthesis and ß-oxidation [53], and several of the phenotypic aspects of Fmo5-/- mice, lower weight, less fat mass, smaller adipocytes and resistance to diet-induced obesity, are characteristic of Nfe2l2-/- mice [54], supporting the view that the phenotype of Fmo5-/- mice is mediated, in part, by decreased expression of Nfe2l2.
