ACSL3 and neoplasm: Although acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 3 (ACSL3) is thought to exert no obvious effect on ferroptosis, in a tumor-related study it was demonstrated that ACSL3-mediated production of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) limits the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and thus inhibits ferroptosis (47), and this also suggests that ACSL3 and ACSL4 may antagonize ferroptosis.
