In one study of patients with cirrhosis, severe vitamin D deficiency, CP class B/C, MELD score ≥15, active HCC, and α‐fetoprotein (AFP) >10 ng/mL were associated with survival rates; however, only severe vitamin D deficiency and CP class B/C were identified as independent prognostic factors in the multivariate analysis.19 The gene discussed is AFP; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
