Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been reported to cause kidney injury through a variety of mechanisms, such as direct interaction with its cellular receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which is widely expressed in proximal tubular cells as well as podocytes [1–4] and aberrant host immune responses [5]. The gene discussed is ACE2; the disease is COVID-19.
