MUC2 and asthma: Our PheWAS and Open Targets Genetics Portal analysis identified that the MUC2 locus signal (rs779167905) allele that was associated with increased risk of chronic sputum production (allele T) was associated with higher risk of asthma and asthma-related traits in other studies [41–43] and with lower risk of gall bladder disease (supplementary tables S7 and S8).
