SIRT1 and Insulin resistance: The accumulation of AGEs can lead to an increase of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, hyperphosphorylation of tau, autoimmunity/inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction/reactive oxygen species (ROS), and disrupt normal cell signaling to cause insulin resistance via down-regulation of the sirtuin1 (SIRT1) protein, which may contribute to the development of neurodegenerative diseases [8,9,10].
