The combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP) is a strong protective factor for ovarian cancer in the general population and has been demonstrated to substantially reduce the risk of ovarian cancer in women with GPVs in BRCA1/2 GPVs (compared with less than 5 years COCP, >10 years COCP, HR 0.37, 95% CI 0.19–0.73) [45, 46]. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
