While there is some evidence to suggest Black patients with acute PE may have underappreciated thrombotic risk due to higher levels of hemostatic factors and endothelial markers, including factor VIII, von Willebrand factor, plasmin antiplasmin complex, and d‐dimer, despite lower incidence of inherited thrombophilia, an exact biologic explanation is unestablished.27 This evidence concerns the gene VWF and Rare hereditary thrombophilia.
