VEGFA and diabetes mellitus: When sodium fluorescein was injected into both type 1 and type 2 diabetics, the fluorescence intensity in type 1 diabetic patients became significant 30 minutes after injection of dye, while in type 2 diabetic patients, the difference was significant only 1 minute after injection (35).The different vascular permeability and reactivity in type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients mean that different types of diabetes may have various vascular lesion characteristics and discrepant responses to VEGF.
