In a recent study, activation of NLRP3 inflammasome gene expression along with other inflammatory markers like TLR4, and IL-1β were found to exaggerate the asthmatic episode in obese asthmatic patients as compared to non-obese asthmatics which confirms the negative role of NLRP3 in obesity-associated asthma (Wood et al., 2019). The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
