TERT and central nervous system cancer: TERT is a kind of reverse transcriptase, which uses its own DNA molecules as a template to increase nucleotides at telomeres, while tumors can activate telomerase to maintain telomere length.18 The mutation in the core region of TERT promoter in glioma increases telomerase activity, indicating that TERT promoter mutation is related to the occurrence and development of glioma.
