Several reports suggest that T2DM induces an increase in the expression or activity of Ca2+-permeable channels, such as the store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) pathway and transient receptor potential canonical channels (TRPC) on the sarcolemma (Chung et al., 2009; Nieves-Cintron et al., 2021), and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP3R) Ca2+ release channels in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) (Velmurugan and White, 2012; Nieves-Cintron et al., 2021). The gene discussed is ITPR1; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
