SQSTM1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Interestingly, dysregulated p62 ubiquitylation is not restricted to ALS and FTD but has also been identified in Parkinson’s Disease pathogenesis where mutant parkin dysregulates p62 proteasomal turnover [60], supporting the idea that dysregulated p62 ubiquitylation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.
