As shown in Figure 6c, the concentration of PAI-1 in infected rats with premorbid cardiomyopathy increased (8.054 ± 2.44 ng/mL) eightfold at 24 hpi compared with healthy rats (control) (1.002 ± 0.31 ng/mL) (p < 0.05) and uninfected rats with acute cardiomyopathy (1.243 ± 0.28 ng/mL) (p < 0.05), whereas, at 96 hpi, PAI-1 concentration was reduced (1.491 ± 0.33 ng/mL), practically corresponding with control and uninfected rats with acute cardiomyopathy (1.225 ± 0.20 ng/mL; p > 0.05). The gene discussed is SERPINE1; the disease is cardiomyopathy.
