In fact, the overexpression of hMX2∆1-25 damped the IFN-imposed HIV-1 restriction on parental U87-MG cells but not on cells where hMX2 was depleted, indicating that hMX2∆1-25 negatively regulates the long isoform antiviral activity and, concomitantly, the type I IFN block to HIV-1 infection [37].
