The adipose tissue of male rat offspring from obese mothers exhibited hypermethylation and histone modification of the Pparγ2 promoter, which led to Pparγ2 downregulation, supporting the cellular memory concept in which adipocyte precursors retained epigenetic marks, predisposing offspring to obesity [74,75,76]. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
