Lecoutre et al. showed that maternal obesity in the rat programs increased adiposity in a sex-specific manner and that perirenal adipose tissue was more sensitive than gonadal adipose tissue to maternal obesity programming, as evidenced by adipocyte hypertrophy and a decrease in adipogenic genes (Pparγ) in male offspring [6]. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
