Kenny et al. previously demonstrated that DNase I knockout mice spontaneously developed lupus-like disease, with mice exhibiting elevated levels of autoantibodies and kidney damage within 12 months, while the development of LN has been associated with mutations in the DNase I and DNase 1L3 genes, subsequently affecting the clearance of NETs and leading to their accumulation [185,186,193]. This evidence concerns the gene DNASE1L3 and lobular neoplasia.
