The present study exploits the in vitro MPTP model of parkinsonism providing evidence of GM1-OS neuroprotective and neurorestorative properties of the damaged nigrostriatal DA system and glutamatergic neurons, trough the modulation of mTOR/Akt/GSK3β downstream pathway and reducing mitochondria ROS overproduction. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
