SOD1 and cataract: Lower activity of SOD, GPx, and lower concentrations of vitamin A and E in cataract patients than in the control group, with simultaneously higher concentration of MDA in plasma and erythrocytes and PC in plasma, indicates the distortion of the oxidant-antioxidant balance, as a result of lowering the enzymatic activity of the antioxidant barrier and enhanced use of antioxidant vitamins.
