Collectively, the results of these neuropathological studies suggest that the G2019S mutation causes typical PD pathology with neuronal loss in the SN and LC accompanied by Lewy pathology in most cases, although the G2019S mutation may cause deposition of other amyloidogenic proteins such as Tau and TDP-43, leading to neurodegeneration independent of α-synuclein and clinical manifestations different from PD. Here, MAPT is linked to Parkinson disease.
