Within the pooled-coronavirus genera (alpha- and betacoronavirus) infection prevalence dataset, which comprised data from 107 studies, approximately 95% of studies used PCR targeting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) gene to detect viruses; other gene targets included subunits of the coronavirus spike protein, the nucleocapsid gene or the envelope protein. The gene discussed is ERVW-1; the disease is infection.
