We discovered that the gene Collagen Type VI Alpha 2 Chain (COL6A2) explains the most variation in steatosis (r2 = 0.055, ppermutation = 1.22 × 10−2 by permutation test), and the genes CCDC80 and SOD3 explain the most variation in both fibrosis and NASH (r2 = 0.102, ppermutation = 1.97 × 10−3 for fibrosis; r2 = 0.166, ppermutation = 3.50 × 10−4 for NASH, by permutation test) (Fig. 4b, Supplementary Table S10). This evidence concerns the gene COL6A2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
