Systemic corticosteroids can reduce symptoms of delayed hypersensitivity reactions.11 They have also been shown to block the effect of IL-5 on in vivo eosinophil accumulation.12 Relapses have also been identified in many case reports, after tapering or withdrawal of systemic steroids13, which further emphasizes their role in patients with DRESS syndrome. The gene discussed is IL5; the disease is drug hypersensitivity syndrome.
