It has been shown recently that mycobacteria or their antigens can also induce MAIT cell activation and recruitment, as these migrate from the circulation of people having active TB to their respiratory tracts, where they have been characterised as CD8+ capable of secreting IFN-γ, so these cells are an important target for vaccination against Mtb (Sakai et al. 2021). This evidence concerns the gene CD8A and tuberculosis.
