Occludin (the OCLN gene) encodes an integral membrane protein that is required for cytokine-induced regulation of the tight junctions (TJs) while KRT8 and KRT19 are two oncogenes important in development of human cancers, and KRT5, KRT14, and KRT17 overexpression are related to poor survival across different types of cancers [24]. The gene discussed is OCLN; the disease is cancer.
