In a DSS-induced colitis animal model, the intestinal inflammation was diminished in Phd1-deficient (Phd1_/_) but unaltered in Phd2-deficient (Phd2+/_) and Phd3-deficient (Phd3_/_) mice, suggesting that loss of Phd1, but not Phd2 or Phd3, is protective against DSS-induced colitis (Tambuwala et al., 2010; Kennel et al., 2022). This evidence concerns the gene EGLN2 and colitis.
