To test our hypothesis that fecal microbiota from PD patients or healthy human controls might regulate dopaminergic neurodegeneration via the AMPK/SOD2 signaling pathway, we used western blotting and immunohistochemistry analysis to detect the expression of phosphorylated AMPK (p-AMPK) and SOD2 protein in the colon and SNc of mice. Here, SOD2 is linked to Parkinson disease.
