Nuclear softening and nuclear decoupling are the 2 main protective mechanism of cells to resist against mechanical stress-induced nuclear damage [15, 32], and we hypothesize that modulation of Sun2 expression may potentially change the status of nuclear softening and nuclear decoupling in progeria cells, which is associated with the capacity of cells to resist against mechanical stress-induced nuclear damage and cellular senescence. The gene discussed is SUN2; the disease is progeroid syndrome.
