In a propensity score matched cohort study of elderly patients (mean age 72 years) with type 2 diabetes, initiation of an SGLT2 inhibitor was associated with reduced risk of hospitalization for AKI (discharge diagnosis) compared with dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors or glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists [24]. Here, SLC5A2 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
