LPP and bacterial arthritis: Both the proinflammatory, as well as the metabolic, effects of LPPs on important members of the cellular immune system suggest a potential clinical use of our findings, e.g., sophisticated diagnostics through LPP analyses of the invading pathogen, anti-LPP, or LPP-analogue intervention strategies to modulate immune and tissue responses in clinical disease or targeting macrophage metabolic shift to prevent joint damage in septic arthritis.
