HMGB1 and cancer: Contis-Montes de Oca et al. treated HeLa cells with various concentrations of the valproic acid derivative N-(2′-Hydroxyphenyl)-2-propylpentanamide (OH-VPA) and showed that OH-VPA not only induces high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm but also boosts ROS levels and displays negative effects on cancer cell viability [83].
