ALOX5 and atherosclerosis: ALOX5AP (arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein) is a gene that encodes a protein called 5-lipoxygenase activating protein (FLAP), which binds arachidonic acid and anchors 5-LOX to the membrane and plays an important role in the transfer of arachidonic acid to 5-LOX, thereby participating in the synthesis of proinflammatory leukotrienes that contribute to atherosclerosis [66,67,68,69].
