Patients with ARDS, compared to those without, had significant differences in blood cell count (lower lymphocyte and higher granulocyte count), more impaired gas exchange (lower values of oxygen saturation (SaO2) and partial oxygen pressure (PaO2)), and more increased inflammatory biomarkers (including C-reactive protein (CRP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and interleukin-6 (IL-6)). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is acute respiratory distress syndrome.
